On the 7th September 2019, the Australian Football League Germany Grand Final was held in the city of Cologne. The AFLG league has seen a Grand Final for the Men since 2004, however 2019 held something special as it was the first year that there was also a Women’s Grand Final as this year we saw the launch of the Women’s inaugural league.
Up first were the women. The Berlin Crocodiles came in as the clear favourites after being undefeated throughout the home & away season, beating their Grand Final opponent the Hamburg Dockers on both appearances. However the Hamburg Dockers capitalised on their underdog status and after coming out hard in the third quarter, also known as the premiership quarter, they convincingly got the win over the Crocs, to be crowned the inaugural AFLG Women’s League Champions.

For the men, over the home and away season & semi final, the reigning Premiers the Hamburg Dockers didn’t show any sort of Premiership hangover and stormed through the season undefeated, leading in to the Grand Final as clear favourites. They were up against last years Grand Final opponent in the Berlin Crocodiles, who were fired up to reclaim the Flag they won in 2017. However, it was not meant to be for the Crocs and the Hamburg Dockers men were too strong coming away with a 21 point win, joining their Womens team as 2019 German Champions.
